Perform a Rescue from Live LV Panel

The Low Voltage Rescue training course is essential if you are performing live work or working with (LV) live switchboards. The course includes the performance of rescue procedures from a live Low Voltage (LV) apparatus.

It outlines the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution, or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

LVR/CPR Course Delivery

4 Hour Face-to-Face Training & Assessment

The Provide first aid course is taught face to face for four hours in the classroom and includes required knowledge and practical training.

All learners will be assessed through a combination of the following assessment methods:

  • Practical Demonstrations: Simulated scenarios/Role playing
  • Project (Incident Report)
  • Knowledge Assessment

No Online Workbook or E-learning Required

Plus for ease and convenience, First Aid Pro Adelaide try to minimise the stress of any online learning. So, whilst we do have mandatory pre-course reading requirements, it is self-paced and self-directed. Prior to attending the course, you need to complete a quiz and bring it to the session on the day to prove completion. The actual number of study hours required for each learner to complete the pre reading and quiz varies depending on the learners existing knowledge, skills and experience.

Course Requirements

Participants must be 14 years of age (those who are under 18 must present enrolment form from a parent or guardian to accept responsibility)

Prepare verbal incident reports or provide information to enable preparation of an incident report (e.g. first aid report)
Communicate effectively and assertively in an incident (e.g. give a casualty handover)

Use literacy and numeracy skills as require reading, interpret and apply guideline and protocols (e.g. read and follow ARC guidelines)

Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compression and breaths) on an adult manikin placed on the floor

Perform at least 2 minutes of interrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compression) on an infant manikin placed on the firm surface

Physical fitness – Participants must have the physical capacity to complete a practical demonstration of a simulated LV panel rescue.

LVR/CPR Certificate

First Aid Pro, prides itself on offering high-quality training and excellent customer service. To that end, we go to great lengths to ensure that all candidates who successfully complete the UETDRRF004 Perform rescue from a live LV panel course and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation are issued with their fully nationally accredited certificate on the same day or within 24 hours of completing their training. 

In order to issue the certification, you will need to have completed the prior reading and associated quiz and have provided your USI (Unique Student Identifier) number see below for more information. USI numbers must be supplied prior to the completion of the training course.

Certificates are issued electronically and will be sent to the email address you use when registering for the course. Paper copies of the certificate are available for an additional fee of $12.00 which includes postage.

It is recommended that refresher training is completed annually

USI Requirements

In line with new government regulations, from January 1, 2018, all students undertaking a nationally recognised training course need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). USI’s only need be created once, and the number generated is yours for life. So, if you are already studying at college or university it is likely that you may already have a USI that you can use. Applications for a USI take less than 5 minutes and can be completed HERE.

Knowledge Evidence (LVR)

In line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures:

  • emergency procedures for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel encompassing:
  • inspection of rescue equipment
  • assessing hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • isolation procedures, where appropriate
  • safe approach distances SAD appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • involvement of external emergency services
  • emergency procedures required for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel encompassing:
  • placement of rescue equipment
  • controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • maintaining SAD appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel

Performance Evidence (LVR)

In line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures:

  • applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including the use of risk control measures
  • inspecting and placing rescue equipment
  • identifying and labelling the isolation point

Knowledge Evidence (CPR)

In line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures:

State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures including:

  • ARC Guidelines relevant to the provision of CPR
  • safe work practices to minimise risks and potential hazards
  • infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions
  • requirements for currency of skill and knowledge

Legal, workplace and community considerations, including:

  • awareness of potential need for stress-management techniques and available support following an emergency situation
  • duty of care requirements
  • respectful behaviour towards a casualty
  • own skills and limitations
  • consent
  • privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • importance of debriefing

Considerations when providing CPR, including:

  • airway obstruction due to body position
  • appropriate duration and cessation of CPR
  • appropriate use of an AED
  • chain of survival
  • standard precautions

Basic anatomy and physiology relating to:

  • how to recognise a person is not breathing normally
  • chest
  • response/consciousness
  • upper airway and effect of positional change

Performance Evidence (CPR)

In line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures:

Followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:

  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • managed the unconscious breathing casualty
  • followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
  • followed the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • demonstrated safe manual handling techniques
  • provide an accurate or written report
